• Wigtown Book Festival, 23 Sept - 3 Oct 2010: much more than just books, this is rated by many as Britain's best. Now also developing its own sub-theme as a whisky festival ....
• Lockerbie Jazz Festival, 1 - 3 Oct 2010: performers of national standing include Carol Kidd, Alan Barnes & Jim Mullen.
• D&G Wildlife Festival, 2 - 25 April 2011: a fantastic three week programme packed with daily events including Ranger-led walks, events for younger children and families, talks and presentations, etc.

What's New at Gelston

• New for 2010, annual update and plans for the season. One side of A4 as a Word document (.doc format) - you can choose to open it in Microsoft Word or save it to your computer - meanwhile this web page remains open.
• Bicycle hire: we are dipping a toe in the water and getting 2 mid-sized adult bikes custom-built for us, for roads or forestry tracks, with simple and reliable hub gears - the old-fashioned Sturmey Archer type which you can change even when stationary or not pedalling - now apparently coming back into vogue for commuters. True mountain bikes for off-road riding can be hired locally elsewhere.

Watercolours of Gelston

Take a bit of Gelston home with you: watercolourist Philippa Jones has painted various pictures of the castle and estate, and these are available to buy (we take no profit on them). You can see one on the page Gelston Castle Courtyard, and one of the castle on Gelston Castle. She also made three paintings into top quality Giclee prints on watercolour paper (indistinguishable from the originals!), signed by her and in very limited editions of 10 prints only. Size 14 x 10.5 inches (excluding border). Price £90 each, unmounted but including postage & protective tube. See right for pictures. A present for someone who loves Gelston?
